Swindon Wildcats confirm the return of Sam Godfrey for the National League Season
Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to confirm that Sam Godfrey will be returning to Swindon for the forthcoming National League Season. The 25-year-old blueliner returned to Swindon from Guildford midway through the 17-18 season and contributed to three trophies since his return.
Having iced in over 50 games for the Wildcats last season, Sam was a crucial part of the defensive core and continued his partnership with line-mate Neil Liddiard. Not only is Sam a key part of the team, but he is a role model for many young hockey players in Swindon having graduated through the academy to break into the first team.
At the age of just 25, there is still plenty of hockey ahead of him and perhaps the best is yet to come still. Head Coach Aaron Nell was delighted to have his services once again this season.
“I’m overjoyed to have Godders back in Swindon for the new season. He is a local guy and he’s developing into one of the senior players on the team. He has tremendous experience for someone so young and he has a lot of hockey ahead of him in his career.
He was very solid for us at the back last year and his game really benefitted from the situations he was playing in. Hopefully Sam can kick on again this season and we are pleased to see him back here for another campaign.”
Similarly, Sam himself is pleased to be returning for another season:
“I’m very happy to return to the Wildcats again next season. Its good fun to play alongside these guys week in week out and I think we are all really looking forward to the season getting underway again in September.
Winning the league was an awesome feeling but this year will be tougher so we have to be prepared to compete every night to achieve the goals we set ourselves at the start of the season.”
