Swindon Wildcats Fan Shares 30th Birthday Letter with the Team
As the Swindon Wildcats celebrate turning 30 years old this year, the team received a letter from a fan celebrating the same birthday! Die-hard fan Jack Leahy penned the Cats a fantastic letter and we at Total Swindon have been lucky enough to get a hold of a copy!
My name is Jack Leahy and I work at an Accounting and Bookkeeping company. I am part of Calculations Bookkeeping, who sponsor the Wildcats this year.
I turned 30 years old back in April. It’s very cool to think I was born in the same year as the Wildcats were formed back in 1986 – it also makes me feel a little old!
I’ve liked hockey for as long as I can remember. Watching Guildford’s Ice Hockey team with my school and continued to go with my friends.
I moved to Swindon about 6 years ago now, and have been coming to see the Cats for about 5 seasons.
I was watching some NHL videos one Saturday with my daughter Shannon, who is 9 years old. She asked if Swindon had an Ice Hockey team - I Googled and saw that we did! It just so happened that there was a game against Guildford at the Link that night. It was meant to be!
I bought us a couple of tickets and went down. We’ve been going ever since!
As I recall, they did lose that first game 2-3 and Ryan Aldridge had a fight. The last few years I’ve managed to get to nearly every home and away game. Not managed that this year but doing the home games and getting to as many away games as possible.
The Wildcats are a big part of mine and my daughter’s weekends and will continue to support them for years to come.
Happy 30th Birthday Swindon Wildcats from Jack and Shannon.
