Swindon Wildcats have today announced that they have made an application to join the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) Division 1 South.
Swindon Wildcats Managing Director Steve Nell made the decision to make a formal application to the NIHL after an email from English Ice Hockey Association Chairman Ken Taggart on Sunday evening advising the remaining seven teams to make applications to NIHL North and South, respectively.
Speaking of the decision to make an application Nell said “After receiving the email from the Chairman and his thoughts regarding the sustainability of the EPIHL moving forward, we have taken the decision to make the application. The NIHL meeting will be on Sunday 7th May where the teams of the NIHL will hear our application.
In addition, the Swindon Wildcats said: "At the fans forum on Tuesday 28th February we told the fans we would keep them updated as and when we have more information to share. With that in mind we wanted to share the detail we know so far at the earliest possible opportunity.
"With regards to a season schedule for the 2017/18 season we will have to wait until after the meeting on 7th May before we can give any additional details to next years league structure and schedule.
"We are a very stable club, therefore there is no doubt in our minds that there will be ice hockey in Swindon next year, and years to follow. The Swindon Wildcats still aspire to compete at the highest level feasible whilst ensuring we remain a stable within all areas of the club.
"We will be able to provide a further update after the meeting on 7th May."
