Swindon Wildcats retain services of Mix Birbraer

Max Birbraer has signed on with the Swindon Wildcats for another year.

Birbraer originally joined the Widcats back in the summer of 2016 in a switch from the Telford Tigers.

The 36-year-old former Israeli international, and New Jersey Devil draft pick, iced in 50 games last season scoring 16 goals and posting 31 assists for a total of 47 points. On top of that, he scored 9 points in the post-season play-offs including six goals.

Speaking of Birbraer's return player coach Aaron Nell was thrilled to have secured his services for a second consecutive season:

“With two imports it does make for tough decisions, when you weigh it all up, Max is the one that will fit in with what we are doing.” Nell said.

“He is obviously very physical and he know at times he has to watch that which he will do next year. He is going to have a bigger offensive role next season and he is going to be on our top line.

"He had a great end to the season last year and was brilliant in the play-offs so hopefully he comes back flying in September.”

Speaking of his return to Swindon, Birbraer himself added:

“It feels amazing to be back for a second year, and it is honour to be asked back considering the change in import numbers.

"I was delighted to spend last season in Swindon, we are professional people and we always want to win trophies unfortunately we could not do that last year. ]

"Although, on a positive note I joined one of the best locker rooms I have ever played in. I enjoyed my time with a great bunch of guys and on top of that, you’ve probably got the best fan base in the league who pack the Link out every match.

"One of things Aaron told me is he wants me to be scoring more. He wants me to tone down a little on the physical side and focus on the scoring, with only two imports I am going to have a big role to play in all areas.

"I hope the fans keep supporting, they can be a big help and be a big part of the team and if they do that and we perform, we will have success next season!”

With NIHL S1 rules only allowing two imports on the roster, Max Birbraer joins Jan Kostal in completing our import line-up for the 17/18 season.

“We have two great professionals, and last year Max was our best import in the play-offs, which is a big part of why he is back next year, in the tough games, you need a physical edge and Max has that.

This year I knew I would sign Jan, looking at the rinks we are playing in Max felt like the right fit and I am thrilled to have him back.”
