Swindon Wildcats secure new deal for Callum Buglass
Swindon Wildcats have today officially confirmed a new two-way deal for young D-man Callum Buglass, ensuring the Welshman will be returning to the Link as part of Aaron Nell's 2016/17 roster.
Buglass, who has spent the last two seasons with the Cats, was high on player-coach Aaron Nell’s 2016-17 blueline wish list, and the new one-year contract extension will certainly strengthen the Wildcats' defensive options for the forthcoming EPIHL campaign.
The 19-year-old, who has recently qualified as a Level 2 Gym Instructor and also achieved a Level 3 Personal Training qualification, is regarded as one of the most promising D-men in the country.
Fresh after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Buglass told the club's official site: “I can’t wait to be part of the team again.
“Aaron has kept a good core group at the club and we want to build on that and push onwards from last season.
“It was tough not making Coventry last year, but it makes us even hungrier to achieve that this time round and I know that everyone at the club are desperate to earn some silverware and the only way we’re going to do that is by putting it all on the line every night.
"We will be doing everything we possibly can to achieve that.”
Buglass, who joined the Wildcats ahead of the 2014-15 campaign, has made 92 appearances and recorded 18 assists, while he managed to score his first senior goal last season and has also been a regular in the GB U20s roster during his time in Wiltshire.
Speaking about keeping the defenceman for another term, head coach Aaron Nell said: "I'm delighted to have Callum back for next season. He's a massive part of our club and is only going to get better.
"Callum reads the game well for his age, he makes good first passes, can skate with the puck if needed and he can also be an offensive threat.
"As well as that, he is solid in the defensive zone and good on the PK.
"This is an important summer for Callum. He's working hard in the gym to put some weight on and that's going to help him massively come September."
Buglass, who has set up his new business CB Fitness since qualifying, concluded by adding: “I’m really looking forward to returning to the club for the new season and I’m hoping to include some personal training alongside the role when I’m up in Swindon on Fridays and Saturdays.
“I can’t wait to get back on the ice with the guys and although the season hasn’t been finished for long, I already want to start playing again," he added.
