The best sports bars in Swindon

Swindon is a great place for sports fans, and there are plenty of sports bars in the area that offer a great atmosphere and a wide selection of games and events to watch. Whether you're looking for a casual pint and a game of pool, a more upscale dining experience with live sports or somewhere to watch niche sports, there's something for everyone in Swindon.

Remember to speak to the owners to see if they show any oversea sports too, such as basketball. After all, March Madness is approaching, so if you are a fan of US college basketball and have been keeping an eye on the latest March Madness odds, it is worth trying to find a local bar that will show the games so you don’t miss out.

Here are some of the best sports bars in the area:

The Clifton

This historic pub is a favourite among Old Town locals and is known for its warm hospitality and regular events. The Clifton is a great place to watch live sports, with Sky Sports and BT Sport on offer. The pub also features a sun-trap garden, a pool table and a dog-friendly bar.

The Southbrook

This converted farmhouse is a popular spot with locals and features a separate restaurant room that serves pub food seven days a week. The large function room features a big screen for live sports and is also an ideal venue for parties and celebrations.

The Brewers Arms

This pub in the village of Wanborough offers an 'Eat around the World' menu and is a perfect mix of modern and traditional. The pub was completely transformed in 2017 and offers a contemporary-styled restaurant, an open-beamed main bar, two private party rooms and a great family-friendly garden.

The Angel Hotel

This hotel in Royal Wootton Bassett offers AA Rosette quality food and is busy with casual drinkers and those enjoying their meals. Rooms are also available in the hotel if you don’t fancy that walk home!

The Tawny Owl

This north Swindon favourite is a great place to watch live sports, with big screens and bar staff in all the right places. The Tawny Owl also features a children's play area, a function room, live music and a pool table.

Boom Battle Bar

Boom Battle Bar is a unique and exciting entertainment destination in Swindon that offers a variety of interactive sports experiences. From axe throwing and electric darts, to nine-hole crazy golf and table tennis, Boom Battle Bar offers something for everyone.

The bar is perfect for those looking for an alternative to the traditional nightlife experience and offers a fun and competitive atmosphere. Additionally, Boom Battle Bar also shows a wide variety of live sports, including football, rugby and boxing, so you can catch all the action while trying out the different activities.

Longs Bar

A popular spot in Old Town for those looking to enjoy a pint and some live sports. With large screen TVs available for all major Premiership football matches (and if you are lucky the odd Swindon Town game!), including one outside on the smoking terrace, Longs is a great place to catch the game with friends. The bar also offers a variety of snacks, caffeine fixes and a selection of ales, wines and spirits.

The Kitchen at Jurys Inn?

Another great venue for watching live sports with a group of friends, this bar features a large TV screen and an extensive bar menu, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a meal and catch the match. The plush surroundings and great atmosphere make The Kitchen a great choice for any sports fan.

Remember that we need to keep patronising our local pubs, if we don’t, many more will join the list of Swindon pubs we lost in 2022.

Mackenzies

A cool and laid-back cafe/bar located in Old Town where sports fans can catch live events on TV while enjoying light bites, premium draught beers and good company. The venue's large open-plan layout means there is plenty of space, so you won't have to worry about missing a play.

The Merlin

The Merlin has always been a great drinking venue for sports lovers and is located near the County Ground. The bar offers a fantastic range of ales and wines, as well as an extensive pub food menu. In addition to watching live sports, the venue also has several pool tables and a dartboard for half-time entertainment.

These are some of the best sports bars in Swindon. Each one of them offers something different, whether it's a great atmosphere, a wide selection of games or quality food and drinks. So, whether you're a local or a visiting sports fan, be sure to check out one of these great sports bars for your next game day. If you want some more inspiration, visit our eating out guide!
