TOP FIVE: Swindon matches v Oxford
Swindon Town go into their derby day against fierce rivals Oxford United on Saturday with a poor record against the U's, so TotalSport have decided to re-live the better fixtures.
5: Swindon Town 1-2 Oxford United - August 21, 2011
Bizarrely, and perhaps bravely, we start this 'Top Five' list with a Swindon loss. Hear us out.
Although the match experience will not go down in history as a moment for Town to be proud of, the post-match antics of maverick manager Paolo Di Canio will always be remembered by those that were there.
Matt Ritchie's header was not enough to win the three points for Swindon due to a James Constable brace, however Di Canio was not deterred. At the full-time whistle the Italian made a gesture to the downbeat home fans that, regardless of the result, Swindon would be promoted at the end of the season and that Oxford would stay down.
He was right - Swindon were crowned champions in May and Oxford did not even manage to make a play-off spot, as they finished eighth.
4: Oxford United 2-4 Swindon Town - 22 September, 1990
A four-goal blitz gave Swindon the derby day bragging rights back in September of 1990, and Town even gave Oxford a two-goal headstart.
Dave Penney and Martin Foyle put Oxford 2-0 up inside the first five minutes, but Swindon hit back in some style.
Fitzroy Simpson pulled a goal back with an accurate shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 before Steve Foley prodded in the leveller to wipe out Oxford's lead.
Duncan Shearer completed the turnaround when he round the Ox keeper and a beautiful passing move that culminated in a Shearer tap-in ensured an historic win for the Robins at the Manor.
3: Swindon Town 4-1 Oxford United - December 6, 1997
The first of two 4-1 wins for Town in this list. The 1997-98 campaign was, by and large, an underwhelming one for Swindon as they finished 18th in the First Division, but this thrashing was an undoubted highlight.
An own goal from Brian Wilsterman provided Town's first goal at SN1 and the floodgates soon opened.
Mark Walters tucked away a penalty, Steve Finney scored the third for the Robins and Ty Gooden found the net too to send the County Ground into raptures.
2: Swindon Town 3-2 Oxford United - May 4, 1982
For better or for worse, this is the most famous Swindon/Oxford fixture to date.
The match was locked at 2-2 with the minutes ticking down at the County Ground in what was an already hotly-contested meeting that only derbies can conjure.
As the game entered its last knockings a smoke bomb was thrown onto the pitch by a Swindon supporter and, amidst the confusion, the referee did not stop the game which allowed Swindon to score a late winner in dramatic, but crazy scenes.
1: Swindon Town 4-1 Oxford United - September 9, 1998
Oxford United getting relegated is always enjoyable, even more so when Swindon have smashed them 4-1 a matter of months before.
It was one hell of a week for the Robins, as they recorded a win over Bristol City a matter of days previously, but trouncing Oxford topped that.
George Ndah and Iffy Onoura scored a brace each to endure United to a miserable evening.
