Swindon Town hit with fine and transfer window fee restriction by EFL
Swindon Town have been hit with a £2,000 fine as well as a transfer window fee restriction by the EFL, due to late payments.
The sanctions come after the club accrued 39 days of late payments since July 1, 2023. These involved payments to HMRC and a third-party club.
Having appealed the punishment, Town’s initial transfer window fee restriction was reduced from three windows to two – the second being suspended unless there is any other breach.
A statement on the EFL website read: "As permitted by EFL Regulations, the club opted to appeal both the fine and fee restriction on the basis that the sanction was disproportionate to the offence committed by the club. The matter was referred to an independent disciplinary commission.
"On review of the case, the commission has determined that the three-transfer window fee restriction should be reduced to two with the second window (August 2024) suspended and triggered upon a further breach. The club is still required to pay the £2,000 fine."
A transfer window restriction means Town are forbidden from committing to pay any transfer fee, compensation fee or loan fee during the current transfer window.
On the field, Swindon are set to visit Newport County in League Two on Saturday, going in search of back-to-back wins.
