The Town stopper, who last season played understudy to Chilean Lawrence Vigouroux, has joined the Sandgrounders in order to increase his chances of first team football.
Southport Football Club announced the deal via their official website today, confirming Belford will be spending the duration of the 2016/17 season in Merseyside.

The move will see a return to old territory for Belford, who plyed his trade in the Liverpool Football Club academy system before making the move to the County Ground back in 2013.
Belford's temporary departure means Swindon Town are light in the goalkeeping department.
Though a permanent move for last season's loanee Lawrence Vigouroux is on the brink of completion, the club currently have only youth starlet Will Henry as the most senior goalkeeper in the squad.
