Vic Morgan: Depressing Times Need to Change, Tonight

Another depressing Saturday. Sadly, too many of those recently. Swindon’s defeat at Bloomfield Road was perhaps the most worrying of this early season stutter.

Yes the Town had a lot of possession, but it’s what you do with it that counts. Now of course I’m not a professional football person so what I think will make no difference to anyone related to STFC.

What was obvious though is that the Blackpool goalkeeper had a relatively comfortable afternoon, while Swindon were saved from a bit of a pasting by several excellent Lawrence Vigouroux, well, saves. The importance of the on loan Liverpool custodian was evident as the Seasiders cut holes in the Town defence. What happens regarding the players we have on loan from Anfield is something I hope will become clear in the wake of Brendan Rodgers dismissal from the ‘Pool hot seat.

Was Saturday depressing? It certainly was. Remember the opposition was a team which hadn’t won back to back games in months.

Blackpool is a club which has seen protests against its owner and looking in a bit of disarray. However in spite of the anger many of the 700, yes, not bad for such a long trip, Swindon fans who made the journey, now is not perhaps the time to panic.

What’ll happen if there’s a defeat at our nearest and not so dearest in the JPT and then against Peterborough, I’m not so sure.

Injuries and international call ups will take their toll but now is the time for players and fans to show their mettle. Now is the time to get behind the club and show support. I’m as frustrated as anyone by the current run of results.

This happens from time to time. You can’t and don’t win every game. What frustrated most at Bloomfield Road was the sudden change from a more direct and faster start to the game to the sudden switch back to the more ponderous passing game which allows the opposition to keep their shape and defend more easily.

The loss of Robert was a factor in this and that’s a slight worry too, the amount of injuries we seem to be picking up. It’s depressing yes but there’s a long way to go. Let’s get going starting tonight!
