Vic Morgan: The new resolve of Swindon Town

Lifelong Swindon Town fan Vic Morgan gives his authoritative say on the club's current affairs, every week on Total Sport. This week Morgan discusses the new air of resolve surrounding the clubs, as key players in all areas of the field have begun to hit peak form.

There appears to be quite a resolve about Swindon Town these days. They seem to have the ability to come from behind and win matches. It seems to be the case in most games that Swindon have to concede the first goal before they can hit top gear.

It's not always the case of course, but it certainly makes for exciting viewing. Remember the opening day of the season? One down against Bradford City before Nathan Byrne hit a hat trick and the Town took the points.

More recent examples, the home wins over Southend, Crewe and Blackpool. The latest last Saturday against Peterborough. Despite conceding an early penalty, Swindon's second half display deservedly forced the win.

What was also noticeable, is that Luke Williams isn't afraid to change things if the game is going against his team. Since his appointment as manager, head coach or whatever, I think it's fair to say Williams has done little wrong.

Spotting that Swindon were being overrun in midfield by the Posh, he made the change that brought about the change. All that means is that the Town are back in the top half of the table and basking in three successive wins.

The form of the Thompsons is also a major plus. It was great to see Louis back to his best at London Road. With increasing fitness his game is as we love to see it. Driving the team forward from midfield with biting tackles and great distribution.

All Town fans know how important the other Thompson is. Playing in his best role, the sweeper's position, Nathan looks dominant. Again as the fitness levels increase, his game gets better. The Swindon skipper reads the play superbly and knows how to clear the danger.

Defensively, that's bound to help the side. Then, of course, there's Nicky Ajose. What else needs to be said about his form at the moment?

The free kick which brought the equaliser on Saturday was sublime. Added to that his ability to arrive at the right place at the right time is uncanny. Nicky is having the sort of season strikers dream of, seemingly able to score in every game.

He won't of course, but it's great to see while it continues. Then there's Michael Doughty. His influence is growing by the match. Can we sign him permanently? Hope so, he'd be a great addition.
