Vic Morgan: Where is our club heading?

Lifelong Swindon Town fan Vic Morgan gives his authoritative say on the club, every Tuesday on Total Sport. This week Morgan ponders where the club is going, while looking ahead to tonight's encounter against Walsall.

There was a tangible sense of disappointment around the County Ground around five o clock on Saturday wasn't there?

The defeat by Bury left most of the people I spoke to after the game deflated. It wasn't just the loss but the way in which Swindon had failed to nail the three points which would all but have guaranteed League One survival.

Although I still think our place is safe for next season, there's still that nagging doubt which could have been dispatched at the weekend.

I think the first half, by common consent, was pretty dreadful. A bright opening few minutes gave a little bit of hope but after that it settled down into a drab affair.

The second forty five minutes was a tad better but of course we conceded the goal and despite hitting the woodwork twice, didn't have enough to claw our way back.

So what now? Well for me it was doubly disappointing because I'm missing the next couple of games. I'm taking part in a cycling event from Swansea to Plymouth, which means I won't be able to go to Walsall and I'll be absent for the Chesterfield home match. Maybe that's why I felt so down after Saturday.

I hate not being at Swindon games even in a season that's proved as disappointing as this. I had hoped that our future would've been decided by now and I'd even hoped at one stage we might even have been looking at extending our campaign.

It's not to be though and, like many others, I'll be scouring social media for updates from the Bescott. As for the rest of the fixtures? We have to get a couple of decent results for several reasons.

One to make sure we don't fall through the trap door, two to build lost confidence that next season will be better. Apart from the feeling of disappointment on Saturday, there was much talk about what might happen in the summer.

All Swindon fans desperately want the club to do well. It's what we turn up for week after week. Okay, we can accept that sometimes things don't always go as we want, as has happened this term, so therefore we're expecting better next time.

It's natural, it's what supporters hope for every August. It's also why some of us have already backed the club by renewing our season tickets. What we want though, is a clear indication of where we're headed. I'm not one who'll have a go at people who run things just for the sake of it.

Let's remember that our club was in serious trouble when Lee Power took the helm and luckily we had someone who wanted to take over. Now we want the team to progress and never have such a disappointing season again.

That's a pipe dream of course because all teams dip from time to time. At the moment it's a low, there'll be highs again. I'm hoping there's one at Walsall later.
