Vigouroux laments 'disappointing' Swindon result, whilst casting doubt on contract extension

LAWRENCE VIGOUROUX insisted it was a disappointing result to take as Swindon Town saw out a drab draw against Mansfield Town at The County Ground yesterday. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker got the thoughts of the goalkeeper following the match.

A difficult game saw the visitors struggle after Mansfield’s Will Atkinson was sent off for a second bookable offence in the first half’s closing moments. But despite the man advantage, Town failed to create goals and Vigouroux said it was a difficult result to take.

“We are disappointed in the changing room,” said Vigouroux.

“They had ten men for the majority of the game and we didn’t create enough clear-cut opportunities to score.

“We’re all disappointed with the result.

“We’ve got to score more goals,” he added.

“I think up until the final third we’ve been ok.

“We’ll work on that in training over the weekend and Monday to make sure we are ready for the game on Tuesday, “ he said.

Having fallen out-of-favour last season with then Swindon manager David Flitcroft, yesterday’s game represented an opportunity for Vigouroux to get one over on the Mansfield coach.

However, the Chilean international stated past differences didn’t play on his mind going into the game.

“I think today’s game was the calmest I’ve ever been up until the final whistle,” stated Vigouroux.

“I don’t think he [David Flitcroft] affected me in any way.

“I just went out there and tried to play football as best as I could.

“It wasn’t about being pleased to play against the old manager, I was just pleased to get back out there playing again,” he said.

“I thought I’d be a bit rusty but that’s normal in football if you’ve not played for a while.

“I’ve just got to get my head down and try to play again on Monday,” he added.

His return to the starting XI was well received by the Swindon faithful, after being left out for Town’s previous seven league matches.

But with the player’s current contract set to expire at the end of this season, Vigouroux refused to delve into too much information when asked whether he would be extending his stay at SN1 after it was revealed a new deal had been put forward by Lee Power.

“I’ve got to talk to my family and my representatives about the contract and what I’m going to do next,” said Vigouroux.

“I’m happy to be here and that’s all that matters.

“Anything that happens in the future will be discussed further on in the season,” he said.

Away from club football, Lawrence Vigouroux has been enjoying life on the international stage after receiving his second call-up to the Chile squad.

And after landing back from Mexico on Thursday, Vigouroux detailed how training with some of the World’s best players has helped him develop his game.

“Just being around World class players such as Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal is amazing to be able to see what they do and how they train,” said the 24-year-old.

“It’s a great experience teaming up with the national side and I’d never turn it down.

“When I first got there in Miami, me and the goalkeeping coach sat down and watched pretty much all my clips from every Swindon game,” he added.

“I’m training really well with them and hopefully I can try and get some minutes when I’m with them next month,” he said.
