Weather Forces Town To Switch Training Venues

Swindon Town's long running training ground dilemma seems to have taken another turn, as the club have had to revert Royal Wootton Basset's Gerrard Buxton facility as a result of recent poor weather.

Town's usual Calne-based training venue of Beversbrook has of late been deemed unusable, leaving the Robins searching for alternatives in the interim.

Swindon signed a three year contract with the Beversbrook facility in June, seeking to add an element of stability to recent unsuccessful training ground ventures.

The responsibility of dealing with the issues has been charged to recently appointed sporting director Seamus Brady, who this week told BBC Wiltshire his aim was to ease the process for Martin Ling and coaches Luke Williams and Ross Embleton, and assist the team in continuing their recent form on the pitch.

"I want to make Martin’s job and Luke and Ross’ job easier,” Brady told BBC Wiltshire.

“I just want them to focus on what to do on the pitch during training and during Saturday.

“One of the little issues we have is that the weather hasn’t been too kind to us over the last couple of weeks so I don’t want them worrying about where we are training and they can leave that to me.

“Wootton Bassett is very impressive. Beversbrook have been really good to us. Obviously the weather hasn’t been good.

“The weather plays a part but we want to try and motivate them and the 3G there really does that so they can concentrate and listen to what the coaches and the managers are trying to say to them.”

“The 3G has been excellent there and the lads like it. You can just see the difference the lads are a little bit more upbeat," said Brady.

At the beginning of November Swindon Town confirmed they had signed contracts for the Highworth based site of Twelve Oaks golf course, bringing an end to the club's long search for a permanent venue to aid future progression.

Now responsible for ensuring the move to Highworth goes to plan, Brady has been working alongside Town icon Fraser Digby to make sure formalities are carried through.

"That is another part of my role to help plan the new training ground,” said Brady.

“From my experience you want to have it up properly so it flows nice and easy and try and keep everyone happy the physios, the fitness coaches, the players and obviously the coaches and the chairman as well.

“The chairman has asked me to come on board and to try and plan that and help him out when he is not here.

“Then get him to come to the meetings when it gets to the business end of things. I’m looking forward to it," Brady added.

After moving on from their previous Liddington base, the club entered a three-year deal with the Beversbrook facility which they currently occupy, though a long term location had always been a key priority for chairman Lee Power and his team.

The current problematic circumstances with the weather only highlight Town's need to get a new training complex sorted as soon as possible, in order to build going forwards.
