Swindon Wildcats Match Report 11/11/12
Peterborough Phantoms 4 - 3 (AOT) Swindon Wildcats Last Sunday evening the Swindon Wildcats rounded off a positive weekend, after earning themselves a solid point against the Peterborough Phantoms.
Despite eventually losing out 4-3 in overtime to the Phantoms, Swindon opened the night's fixture in good form after a home win the previous evening.
Within the first minute, a close range shot fired from import Jonas Hoog quickly made it 1-0 to the 'Cats, as the Swede connected on a pin point delivery from fellow team mate Aaron Nell.
Into the second and the away side then doubled their lead, as a counter attack saw Czech import Michal Kapicka finish on a one on one opportunity against netminder King. Just before the half way point of the game and Swindon would see to make it three in a row, as Nicky Watt's flourished attempt would beat King once more and give Swindon a commanding lead.
However with a powerplay opportunity on the ice, the Peterborough Phantoms would eventually find a reply and one that would be netted by forward James Ferrara just twenty five seconds from time.
A fiesty third period made for an exciting final twenty minutes and one that quickly took another turn. After Tom Carlon was delivered a mid air pass by James Hutchinson for the Phantoms, a quick bat in the air would then see the home side make it two as the puck made its way past netminder Dean Skinns.
With just a minute left in the period and Peterborough just one goal down, the final few seconds made for a flurry on the ice. In what will be seen as the most controversial decision that night, saw the Phantoms' Sladok tap the puck into the neat post from previous scorer Ferrara, however with the clock reading 0:00.
After further review and one that saw an adamant 'Cats team argue their case, the goal was eventually given to the home side with just 0:01 reading back on the clock.
A tough decision for Swindon would consequently bring an overtime period into the game as both teams now looked to close out the fixture with a single goal.
Within 48 seconds that goal then came and one that served as a cruel blow for the Wildcats. A 2 on 1 situation left the home side in on goal and with a simple shot, saw the Phantoms' Norton strike the top of the net and give his side that game winning goal.
An eventual tough result for Swindon, although did not see them pick up the win this night, did serve to bring them a three point weekend. With just a point dropped the 'Cats look to show even further signs of improvement moving forward as the league enters mid November.
