Williams lauds makeshift centre back Conor Thomas
Swindon manager Luke Williams was quick to heap praise on the club's summer acquisition Conor Thomas, following his outing as an unnatural centre back in Town’s 1-0 win over Coventry on Saturday.
Thomas, who is more akin to being deployed as a centre midfielder, was used as part of the Robins’ back three as Raphael Rossi Branco missed the Coventry match through injury while new loan signing Lloyd Jones was ineligible due to not being registered in time.
“We have seen him (Thomas) play there (centre back) as a young player and we had a good report on him as a young player playing in that position,” Williams revealed.
“It looked at one stage in his early career that he may potentially be in the backline but he has filled in there for us today and I thought he was fantastic.
“I am very pleased with his performance. He didn’t look like he was playing out of position and he looked very comfortable so that is great to have players, when you have got a small squad, that can play in different positions.”
Branco is unlikely to be fit for Town’s trip to Queens Park Rangers due to an ongoing groin injury that forced the 26-year-old off early during Swindon’s 3-0 pre-season defeat to Premier League outfit Swansea City.
Liverpool loanee Jones, however, will be in contention for the EFL Cup tie at Loftus Road.
