Yaser Kasim reiterates Premier League desire

Swindon Town midfielder Yaser Kasim has again spoken of a long term desire to feature in the Premier League, but insists the playing style at Swindon Town is one that suits him nicely.

The Iraq international, currently out of first team action while recooperating from a knee injury, has been linked with several moves away from the County Ground in recent transfer windows.

The January 2016 window saw Premier League duo West Ham United and Swansea City enquire about his services, as confirmed by club chairman Lee Power, but the Robins number eight remained at the County Ground as no serious business materialised - with Swansea City instead opting to sign midfielder Leroy Fer on loan.

Speaking recently to national tabloid The Sun, Kasim opened up about his football ambitions and a strong desire to earn his stripes in the country's top division.

"I am very ambitious and want to play in the Premier League," Kasim admitted.

No stranger to top flight football clubs, Kasim rose through the youth ranks at North London club Tottenham Hotspur, playing under a host of managers including Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp.

A first team opportunity never beckoned for Kasim at Spurs, and a move via Brighton and Hove Albion eventually saw the Baghdad born midfielder arrive at the County Ground.

Kasim commented upon his time in the capital, stating: "There was a revolving door of managers and players at the time and a lot of instability (at Tottenham Hotspur).

“Martin Jol made me feel involved but Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp didn’t. Some of the players ruined the atmosphere when they weren’t in the first team.

“I knew in my gut that I needed to go," he added.

Now playing under new first team manager Luke Williams, a man who he forged an early relationship with during his Brighton career, Kasim will be looking to recapture the form which made him stand out as such a revelation following his transfer to SN1.

The 'Arabic athlete of the year' admitted the style of football and philosophy at Swindon Town is something that suits him well, and has assisted in his development as a player.

"But we’re playing really good football at Swindon and the style has really suited me, we have the right philosophy," Kasim added.
