Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft replaced Kaiyne Woolery primarily for tactical reasons

Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft says the main reason for substituting Kaiyne Woolery on Saturday was for a tactical change, but did admit the striker is struggling for fitness somewhat.

Woolery signed a three-year deal at Swindon this summer from League One Wigan Athletic for a £350,000 fee after Town beat Forest Green Rovers to his signature.

The 22-year-old did get a full pre-season with former club Wigan, however he only joined Town on August 7 which means he has not had a great deal of time under new boss David Flitcroft, who has instilled a hard-working mindset and training regime at the County Ground.

Woolery has played in all three league games since arriving and scored in the 1-1 draw at home to Exeter, which was his first league match at his new stadium.

In the second though, a 3-0 home defeat against Crawley, he struggled to really get in the game and was replaced by winger James Brophy after just 53 minutes with Swindon 1-0 down at the time.

Flitcroft insisted the first thought in his mind was to change the game in a tactical sense, but did concede that a part of it was due to Woolery adapting to his surroundings at Swindon.

"It was an opportunity to get (Paul) Mullin and (Luke) Norris close together, to get Mulls down the centre of the pitch.

"He'll get his fitness, he'll get his sharpness but it's just not there yet."
