Swindon Town announce new signing, two hours before League Two opener
Swindon Town have announced the signing of defender Billy Kirkman, two hours before they kick off their League Two campaign.
The 20-year-old, who has featured for the club as a trialist in pre-season, arrives at the club having previously featured in the Welsh top flight.
Kirkman has represented both The New Saints and Aberystwyth, winning the title with the former.
On joining the Robins, Kirkman told the club website: "It feels really good, I'm excited to get started and of course, it's my first taste of English football too. I can't wait to get started and meet some of my teammates."
Swindon Town head of football Jamie Russell added: "Billy is an exciting, powerful left-sided player that is happy playing as a left back or left wing-back which provides us with a player that has plenty of potential to develop into a top player at his level of English football.
"Billy works incredibly hard and enjoys getting forward and creating opportunities in the final third, which is shown by the attacking threat he's shown in the Welsh top-tier, as well as having the physical attributes to be able to get back and defend too.
"As a development player and one we see a positive future, we are looking forward to working with him and supporting him in the next part of his career."
Town kick-off their league campaign at Chesterfield in League Two this evening (8pm).
