Kennedy: 'That was probably the most bizarre game I have ever been involved in'
Swindon Town head coach Mark Kennedy admitted his side’s enthralling 1-1 draw at Barrow was “probably the most bizarre game I have ever been involved in”.
Danny Butterworth scored a 98th-minute equaliser to earn Town a point after Barrow keeper Paul Farman’s sending off for handball in the 42nd minute.
Full-back Rory Feely donned the gloves as a makeshift keeper for the hosts, with Town eventually cancelling out Gerard Garner’s equaliser.
Town found themselves down to 10 men after Harry Smith was sent off for violent conduct on 65 minutes. Kennedy also had to make two first-half changes and replace two substitutes.
“That was probably the most bizarre game I have ever been involved in,” said Kennedy post-match.
“We have had to make two substitutions in the first half, we have conceded a goal from a poor decision from one of our players but a ridiculous finish, we had a ball going into the back of the net but then a hits a hand and goes over the bar, and then we get a man sent off ourselves.
“It was a really bizarre game but I thought we dominated it from start to finish, we were down to 10 men for 35 minutes in the second half and had 78 per cent possession. There were a lot of positives.”
He added: “I was really pleased with our patience, especially because there was a guy in goal who is an outfield player.”
The result leaves Town 21st in League Two, with three points from their opening five games. Kennedy is still searching for his first competitive win in charge.
Town return to the Nigel Eady County Ground on Saturday, when they host Newport County (12.30pm).
